A good friend of mine, Thomas Mangum, and I were speaking this morning and he mentioned this book “The Maui Millionaires” that was written by his colleague David Finkel.

In reading thru the info on the dust cover, I’m really intrigued to read the book.  My good friend Mark Victore Hansen said this about the book:

“Invest in your millionaire future by reading how Maui Millionaires did it.  Read it on the beach.  Better yet, read it in Maui and get rich”

Well, I’m looking forward to reading this book on the plane to Dallas this weekend, so watch out for more postings as I go through the book over the next few days.

Please, if you’ve read “The Maui Millionaires” by David Finkel and Diane Kennedy, leave me a comment here and let me know what you thought about the book, its philosophy, and what you’ve done with this information.

And, if you haven’t read this book, yet, please click on the link below and purchase a copy for yourself.  Then we can discuss it.

I thought that this was a cute story, especially for someone like me who is a huge supporter of the second amendment, this came from a local paper in Alabama…

To The Guy Who Tried To Rob Me In Little Rock:

I was the guy wiht the black Burberry jacket that you demanded I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on my girlfriend and I.  You also demanded my girlfriend’s purse and earrings.  I hope you somehow come across this message.  I’d like to apologize.

I didn’t expect you to soil your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket.  Truth is, I was wearing the jacket for a reason that evening, and it wasn’t that cold outside.  You see, my girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for Christmas, and we had just picked up a shoulder holster for it that evening.  Beautiful pistol, huh?

It’s a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, isn’t it?  I know it probably wasn’t a great deal of fun walking back to wherever you’d come from with that brown sludge flopping about in your pants.  I’m sure it was even worse since you also ended up leaving  your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me.  I couldn’t have you calling up any of your buddies to come help you try and mug us again.

I took the liberty of calling your mother or “Momma” as you had her listed in your cell and explaining to her your situation.  I also bought myself and four other people in the gas station this morning a tank full of gas on your credit card.  The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!  I gave your shoes to one of the homeless guys over by Vinnie Van Go-Go’s, along with all the cash in your wallet.

I threw the wallet in a fancy pink “pimp mobile” parked at the curb after I broke the windshield and side window out and keyed the drivers side.  I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone.  They’ll be on your bill in case you’d like to know which ones.   Ma Bell just shut down the line, and I’ve only had the phone for a little over a day now, so I don’t know what’s going on with that… I hope they haven’t permanently cut off your service.

I could only get in two threatening phone calls to the D.A.’s office and one to the FBI with it.  The FBI guy was really ticked and we had a long chat (I guess while he traced the number).  I’d also like to apologize for not killing you and instead making you walk back home humiliated.  I’m hoping that you’ll reconsider your choice of path in life.  Next time you might not be so lucky. -Alex

P.S.: Remember, an armed society is a polite society!

Now, I know that not everyone is in favor of the Second Amendment and specifically this right granted under the constitution, but I am a supporter.

I will not let this become a Pro-Gun blog, but I felt it important to share this very funny story.  And, I might start a separate blog just for discussions about Second Amendment issues.

I’ve been getting a lot of emails from people about my previous entries about the HCG DietIf you go back into my blog archive to August 2008, you’ll find an entry entitled “What is the HCG Diet?“.

This blog entry outlined an excellent and fairly drastic diet called the HCG Diet that I started to do.  I had reached my limit when my weight got to 275lbs, now I know at 6 foot 4 inches tall that it doesn’t always appear that I am seriously overweight, but I know that I am.

I have to say that over the 42 day cycle of the diet, it was amazing, I not only lost 41 pounds, I was feeling great!  I had finished Phase 2 of the diet and was entrering into Phase 3 and everything was going great.  Then unfortunately, I broke my ankle when Heidi (my wife) and I were out hiking one day at Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas.  This put a real dampener on things and unfortunately, I couldn’t do the exercise that I needed to do every day.

Now, after months of traveling, going to events, and speaking with clients, I’ve been gaining weight at a slow but steady pace and now, I’m back to about the exact weight that I was when I started the diet.  So, now, back at 270 lbs, I’ve decided that I am just going to have to do a better job of managing what I’m eating, especially when I’m traveling.

If anyone has any suggestions for me that I can implement while I’m on the road, please feel free to put your comments below.

Normally, I don’t go off on a rant on my blog, but I really don’t think that I can leave this one alone…

I just got off the phone with a Manager at American Express (who refused to give me her name, but I have her employee ID Number) because I just got some absolutely ridiculous news.

American Express just cut the available credit limits on one of my credit cards by 95%.  I’ve had this card for 23 years, without missing a payment and for most of the past 23 years, have paid the card in full each month.

About a year ago, I took a AMEX Blue for Business Card Offer from them for one of my businesses.  They offered me a card with a $40,000 limit and 0% for the first 6 months, so I took it.  Then in the past 90 days, they arbitrarily cut the credit limit to $100 over my balance, and then this week, cut it again because I paid down the balance.
